Just a Note about our Classes......

Because our classes fill up quickly, we encourage you to register as soon as possible. Registrations for classes are on a first come, first serve basis.

You may register for any class by:  1) stopping into our shop, or 2) calling the shop and presenting your credit card or 3)  online.  When registering online, add the class to your cart and upon checkout select your desired class date from the drop down menu.

Are you intimidated by your sewing machine?  Do presser feet confuse you?  Does it sometimes make a strange “kerklunking” sound?   Well, come on in and bring your machine with you!  This class is open to owners of any brand of sewing machine that is in good working order. Under Linda’s guidance you’ll discover basic threading, bobbin winding, tension management, maintenance and what all those feet,╩accessories, buttons, dials and strange looking icons can do for you. Manage you machine-don’t let it manage you!

Come learn the very basics of sewing  binding to your quilt top and get that “professional, finished” look.  In this 3 hour workshop, you’ll learn how to cut binding straight and on the bias, perfect mitered corners and complete the final finish so your binding has a neat, professional look. You can bring a small project like a placemat or wallhanging to work on a sample quilt sandwich to practice on!

Learn the very basic beginning techniques of quiltmaking in this 5 part class and finish with your first completed quilt! Using Alex Anderson’s best selling beginner’s book, “Start Quilting” you will learn the basics on fabric selection, color and value, rotary cutting, 1/4” seam piecing, proper pressing,  applying borders, basting and packing your quilt, simple machine quilting and binding!  That’s right!  By the end of the 5 week session you will have a completed quilt and most importantly, have the confidence and skills to start new quilting projects!  Sewing machine and basic sewing skils are required.

Now that you’ve completed your 1st quilt, build on that momentum and start your 2nd quilt.  Under Linda’s guidance, you’ll create the beautiful Irish Chain quilt from  Alex Anderson’s best selling beginner’s book, “Start Quilting”.  In this 2 part class you’ll refine your 1/4” piecing technique, and learn more basic block construction.   This quilt looks far more complicated than it is and you’ll be amazed how easy and fun it is to put together!

Pre-requisite:  Students should have a thorough grasp of their 1/4” seam piecing or have taken our Quilting 101 Class. 

 

 

If you’ve always wanted to make a sampler quilt then this is the class for you.  Using either a variety of fat quarters or 3-4 fabrics of your choosing and Judy Hopkin’s excellent reference book “501 Rotary Cut Blocks”, we’ll concentrate on piecing (2) star blocks each week.  You'll learn abour color placement, value and perfect your 1/4” seams.  By the end of the 6 week session you’ll have (12) beautiful blocks ready to be sashed and bordered into a sampler quilt that will be finished just in time for the holiday season and cooler weather!

Your sewing machine must be able to drop it’s feed dogs and you need a darning or free motion quilting presser foot....

 

 

Learn the very basics of free motion machine quilting...In this 5 hour session you’ll learn the beginning steps to free motion quilting and basic free motion stitching such as “stitch in the ditch” stippling, background meandering, swirls, hearts & other designs. You’ll also learn the importance of thread, needles, batting, machine tension and ergonomics and how they impact your quilting success. With Nanette’s guidance and plenty of practice after class, you’ll discover your own free motion style and be on the way to finishing all of your quilt tops.

Come and learn the art of English Paper Piecing, a method of hand sewing and basting fabric over paper or plastic shapes, then hand sewing the pieces together to form a larger shape (aka a Grandmother’s Flower Garden). While making this small wallhanging, Terri will guide you through the steps to perfecting this hand sewing method that dates back to the Victorian era. Oh and congrads to Terri, as she just won the blue ribbon for her English Paper Piecing at the recent 2010 North Carolina Symposium show!
